Care tips for your new 100% Cotton fabrics

Congratulations!  You just purchased a comfy all cotton product and now want to make it last and last.  There are many pitfalls that can make the all-cotton fabric dull, over bleached, cause shrinkage, small pin holes, and shorten the life of the fabric dramatically.  So in order to truly get the most out of your cotton dollars we look to the Cotton, Fabric of our Lives Website for further guidance:
1.  Chlorine bleach is tough on your clothes. Go with the gentle touch of a bleach alternative like White Brite™ or OxiClean™ to keep your cotton shining white and odor-free.
2.  Take your cotton clothes out of the dryer slightly damp and let air dry.  This will increase the life of your cottons and will help to prevent over shrinkage from excessive heat.
3.  Never wash your cottons is hot water, there are now cold water detergents that will take out tough stains or use just a touch of Oxiclean.  Be careful not to overuse detergent or softener, this will also extend the life of the fabric.
4.  Combo laundry detergents that have detergents and fabric softeners together will set stains, so avoid them or risk being stuck with stains forever.
5.  White Vinegar, a half cup in the rinse cycle can work like magic to kill germs, whiten whites, get rid of odors, and make your clothes soft and fluffy.
6.  Stains can be a problem: so right when a stain happens, use some type of quick fix with club soda, dish washing detergent like Dawn, Oxiclean with a little water, or just bar soap.  Rub in the stain and use your fingernail for 20-30 seconds until the stain disappears.  This will take care of most stains but you have to do it right away.  Leaving it to later might mean the stain might not come out.

To get the most absorbent towels:  Another quick tip in buying your towels that will be absorbent bath after bath.  Buy carded cotton instead of combed cotton, the lesser grade of cotton will be more absorbent because the fibers have not been combed out of the cotton and there are more fibers to grab the moisture.

Wittmann Textiles Company Terrycloth Robes are very absorbent because the cotton has not been sprayed with any water repellant agents and so they are like thirsty towels.  Many kid’s robes (not Wittmann Textiles Kids Robes) that might even be all cotton have been sprayed with this agent so that when a child puts on a robe after a bath and then sits on the couch the moisture will not go through but stay in the robe.

Cotton is an amazing fabric and you will enjoy many years of comfort with this type of care.  Enjoy!
